Family turns in couple accused of "gas bomb" robberies

FT. LAUDERDALE -- Police say a Florida couple threatened to use a "gas bomb" during two robberies of separate Denny's restaurants Sunday, and that relatives turned them in, reports CBS Miami.

Robert Golden, 27, and Tiffany Sierzputowski, 20, confessed to the two Denny's robberies near Fort Lauderdale, as well as one at a 7-11, according to police. They allegedly said they are drug addicts and homeless. Their family members saw surveillance images released by police on the news and turned them in, according to police.

On Sunday, the couple allegedly walked into a Denny's in Oakland Park, Fla., and asked a cashier to break a ten dollar bill. Investigators say that when the cashier opened the register, the couple threatened her with a squirt bottle of gas and a lighter, and demanded the money in the register.

Broward County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Gina Carter called the incident "horrific."

"Imagine someone walking in and threatening to set you on fire if you don't give them what they want," Carter said.

Later Sunday, the same pair robbed another Denny's, according to police. One of the suspects allegedly handed a cashier a note saying, "Really sorry. Empty the register as quickly and calmly as possible. We have GUNS and Gas Bombs."

Police said Golden and Sierzputowski were then also seen stealing about $40 worth of food from a Dania Beach 7-11.

The couple was picked up Thursday morning at an apartment complex in Pembroke Pines. Both are being held without bond on charges of robbery with a deadly weapon.
