Family of man accused of trying to defraud Facebook is also missing

NEW YORK - Prosecutors say a man charged with faking an ownership stake in Facebook jumped bail by slicing off an electronic monitoring device and creating a crude contraption to make it appear he was still at home.

Facebook fraud suspect vanishes before trial 02:18

The revelation comes as investigators search not only for Paul Ceglia, but his wife and two young sons.

State police say 36-year-old Iasia Ceglia and her two sons, 10-year-old Leeman and 11-year-old Joseffinn, were reported missing on Tuesday. That's the same day a federal judge revoked bail for Paul Ceglia.

Prosecutors say the businessman dropped out of touch with his pretrial services officer and was no longer at his family's rural home in Wellsville, 70 miles southeast of Buffalo.

Troopers say it's unknown if the wife and boys are with Ceglia, who allegedly cut off his electronic ankle bracelet and escaped his Wellsville, New York, home.

Ceglia faces a May trial on a charge he fraudulently claimed ownership in Facebook. His civil lawsuit against founder Mark Zuckerberg was thrown out after he was accused of doctoring a software development contract he signed with Zuckerberg in 2003. Authorities say he made it appear Zuckerberg promised him half ownership in return for $1,000 in start-up money.
