Fall Fashion Must-Haves

There are so many new fashion trends this fall, it's hard to know what exactly to buy.

But Lori Bergamotto, a contributing style editor to People magazine's StyleWatch, visited , The Early Show Friday to point viewers in the right directions -- with her ideas on the season's fashion must-haves!

She says this fall's trends are different from those of seasons past -- because they have staying power!

TREND: PLAID

Strapless dress, 213 Industry, $154; 213-765-0701 for stores; 213industry.com
Necklace, Betsey Johnson
Bracelet, Betsey Johnson
"Raven" slingback heels, Nine West, $145; at Nine West stores or ninewest.com

This isn't the plaid everybody thinks of. These patterns are wider, and colors are muted. It is being rendered in more accessible silhouettes. This is an adorable dress, and can be equal to the new "black dress" of the season. We normally see this in a flannel shirt in more masculine clothes, but now it's all so feminine!

TREND: LACE

Grey "Marie" dress, Diane von Furstenberg, $298; dvf.com
Necklace, Betsey Johnson
"Lisco" heels, Nine West, $89; at Nine West stores or ninewest.com

Lori LOVES this trend. Lace is on everything: bags, shoes, everywhere. A lot of people think it's too sexy, but you can wear something over a dress like this and keep things very feminine, polished, and ladylike. Lace isn't just for lingerie! It's now tasteful to weave it into different elements of your wardrobe. This is a bias cut dress. Curvier woman should where more of an a-line dress with lace on it.

TREND: RICH COLORS AND POINTY SHOES

Silk Top, Magaschoni, $398; Halls Kansas City, 816-274-3459
Skirt, Theory, $175; at Theory nationwide or theory.com for store locations
Belt, MICHAEL Michael Kors
Ring
Leopard heels, Cole Haan "Fiona High Air Pumps," $325; 800-201-8001; colehaan.com

These two trends are universal, for any age, size. Bold colors and jeweled tones have been in, but now it's specific rich colors -- regal, sophisticated vibes. Women can incorporate color into wardrobe in many different ways. Yellow was "in" last season and not everyone was able to pull it off; these can be worn by everyone. Because of their depth, any skin tone can pull it off. Pointy shoes are also back this season! The pointy shoes left and things went back to round toe, but now the point is in again and can be worn with just about everything. And they're making them extremely high! It is not just about the basic black pump anymore. Invest in a good pair and it will carry through the entire season. You can wear them with jeans, suits, dresses. They really make a statement. You can get them anywhere at any available pricepoint.

TREND: TUXEDO AND CUTOUT BOOTIES

"Madison" cotton vest, Club Madison, $119; clubmonaco.com for stores.
"Lorraine" ruffle top, Club Monaco, $109; clubmonaco.com for stores.
Pants, French Connection, $158; at French Connection stores nationwide Bangles, Kenneth Cole; $48 each; at Kenneth Cole "Shayne" suede peep-toes, Bakers, $99.95; 877-746-3932

This is all you need to make tuxedos work in a black vest and a ruffled shirt! It's easy! Cutout Booties are in this season; always keep your toes manicured, because many of the styles are peep-toe! This is a great option for people who don't want to wear the extremely high pointy pump. They come in a variety of heel sizes and can be paired with just about every outfit.

TREND: FLORALS and LADYLIKE BAGS

Charmeuse scoop-neck blouse, Kate Hill, $78; Lord & Taylor, 800-223-7440; lordandtaylor.com
Jeans, Tyte, $38; tyte.com for stores
Necklace, Claire's
"Kelly" Bag, Simply Vera Vera Wang, $69; Kohl's, 866-887-8884; kohls.com
"Barbe" heels, Nine West, $69; at Nine West stores or ninewest.com

The lady-like bags have really nice structures and extras; maybe hardware or bling. It's not just a loose, big shoulder bag. Patent leather is huge for accessories; look for things that have the extras and rendered in a fabric, and that feel feminine to you. Florals aren't the florals of years past. Many curvier women worry about wearing a floral print, and others may think it's too youthful. Not this season! Now, floral is very forgiving in prints. These are grownup florals, extremely sophisticated and darker.
