Facebook Timeline launches for brand pages

Facebook

(CBS News) Facebook businesses and public figures can now activate their Timeline on their Pages.

The social network launched the new feature today and some brands have already taken advantage of the feature. If you're not familiar with Pages, they're sometimes referred to as "fan pages" that businesses, public figures or causes, among other groups, can create to broadcast updates and photos.

Magnolia Bakery has a beautiful cover photo of desserts. Ben & Jerry's and Coldplay have both taken advantage of featured posts, featuring beautiful photos or video. The New York Times timeline goes all the way back to its founding in 1851.

Don't worry if your business isn't ready for Timeline, it's not mandatory yet. But, keep in mind all Pages will be pushed to Timeline on March 30. Help with the transition can be found at Facebook.

Timeline has already been rolled out to member profiles, although it's proven to be an unpopular feature. As CNET pointed out, the opinion site SodaHead polled Facebook users and a whopping 70 percent didn't like the re-design. Out of 1,981 votes, only 392 liked Timeline, while 1,388 said to lose it.

Are you actually surprised? People just don't like it when Facebook changes. In the past, people have either threatened to quit the social network, created groups protesting the changes or created petitions to revert back to the old Facebook.
