Eyewear website operator going to prison for threatening to murder, rape complaining customers
(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - The operator of the eyewear website DecorMyEyes has been ordered to spend four years in prison by a New York judge, who said Vitaly Borker's threats to murder or rape customers who complained required a serious sentence.
U.S. District Judge Richard Sullivan sentenced Borker on Thursday. He also ordered him to pay nearly $100,000 in fines and restitution.
Borker pleaded guilty last year to making threats, and to fraud charges. Prosecutors say well over 200 complaints had been filed against Borker with the Federal Trade Commission about his website.
According to CBS New York, authorities said Borker admitted to telling one customer, "don't forget, I know where you live."
He's been jailed since July, when a Manhattan judge listened to some of Borker's victims testify about his threats.
Borker says he is "deeply sorry." His lawyer blames his client's behavior on alcohol and marijuana abuse and mental illness.
