"Evita" heading back to Broadway with Ricky Martin in March
(CBS/AP) "Evita" is coming back to Broadway next year in a new production starring Ricky Martin. This is the first revival of the Broadway musical since since its first run over 30 years ago.
Producers of "Evita" announced Thursday the first preview dates and opening night of the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.
They also revealed the first photo of the stars - Ricky Martin as Che, Argentinean actress Elena Roger in her Broadway debut as Eva Peron, and Tony Award-winner Michael Cerveris as Juan Peron.
Roger previously won the 2009 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Edith Piaf in "Piaf." Cerveris, a Tony winner, has starred in productions including "Assassins" and "Sweeney Todd."
Michael Grandage will direct, and Rob Ashford will choreograph. The original Broadway production of "Evita" ran from 1979 to 1983 and won seven Tony awards.
