Elton John begins 3-year headlining gig in Las Vegas
(CBS) Get back honkey cat, Elton John is taking over the keys for the next three years at Caesars Palace.
The five-time Grammy winner debuted his new headlining gig, called "The Million Dollar Piano," at The Colosseum in Las Vegas on Wednesday. This is John's second time being the main billing at the venue; his previous run, "The Red Piano," lasted five years and 241 shows.
His new Yamaha piano - which the show is named after - took center stage. It took four years to make the 3,200 pound piano, which contains 68 LED panels.
"It has a spin cycle washer in the back, a microwave and an aquarium," he joked about the instrument, according to the Associated Press.
But, expensive and impressive instruments aside, it was John who stole the show with his catalog of hits including "Benny and the Jets," "Rocket Man," "Saturday Night's All Right (For Fighting)" and "Circle of Life." The musician took the stage in a sequined cape and played for for about two hours.
If you can't make it to Las Vegas, you might get a chance to catch John overseas. He will perform live next in June 2012 at the B2net Stadium in Chesterfield, England.
"Music is a wonderful gift and I feel very privileged to be able to share this with so many people around the world. I am thrilled that at long last I can bring my show to Chesterfield, I have never had the chance to play in this town before so I am excited to be the first performer to play at this fabulous stadium," he said, according to the Doncaster Free Press.
