Ellen DeGeneres speaks out on anti-gay campaign
(CBS) LOS ANGELES - Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres broke her silence Wednesday about the conservative anti-gay campaign that has been raging around her his week.
"For those of you are just tuning in for the first time, it's true. I'm gay. I hope you were sitting down," DeGeneres told viewers of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in a segment taped Tuesday for the Wednesday broadcast.
She said she was "proud and happy" that retail store J.C. Penney had stood by her in the face of threats by the One Million Moms group to boycott the store if DeGeneres was not axed as a spokeswoman.
On "CBS This Morning," Thursday,J.C. Penney chief executive officer Ron Johnson, said the company "shares the same values" as DeGeneres and that the decision to have her as a spokesperson was a "no-brainer."
