Edwards Signs With Fish
Linebacker Dixon Edwards signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins on Monday, three weeks after he was released by Minnesota in a cost-cutting move.
Terms of the deal were not released, but published reports said the deal was worth more than the NFL minimum of $400,000 but less than $1 million.
Edwards, 31, won three Super Bowls in Dallas under current Dolphins coach Jimmy Johnson. The eight-year veteran is expected to challenge starter Derrick Rodgers at weak-side linebacker.
Edwards signed a four-year, $10 million contract with Minnesota in 1996 and started 43 games over three seasons. His first year with the Vikings was his best, when he recorded 122 tackles.
But his productivity decreased each year and the Vikings opted not to keep him for the final year of the contract. By the end of last season, Edwards was forced to play on an injured right hamstring.
