Dylans In Hollywood Generation Gap
The Hollywood bug has bitten Bob Dylan's family, with the rock icon and his eldest son working on very different film projects.
Dylan the father has written a song for an upcoming Civil War drama, while son Jesse is in talks to direct the third installment of raunchy teen comedy "American Pie."
Bob Dylan, 61, composed the tune "Crossing Over the Green Mountain" for "Gods and Generals," which is scheduled for release in December, Warner Bros. Pictures said Wednesday.
The song, which runs about seven minutes, is "a haunting, moving ballad, reminiscent of his earliest works with the added insights of a lifetime," the studio said in a statement.
Directed by Ron Maxwell, "Gods and Generals" is based on a novel by Jeff Shaara. The song will also appear on a soundtrack album to be released by Dylan's Columbia Records label.
Dylan won an Academy Award last year for his song "Things Have Changed" from the Michael Douglas movie "Wonder Boys." He recently wrapped a starring role as a washed-up musician in "Masked & Anonymous," his first feature since 1987's ill-received "Hearts of Fire."
Jesse Dylan, meanwhile, is eyeing "American Pie 3," which begins filming in January for an August 2003 release, Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety said in its Thursday issue. The Universal Pictures film, like its predecessors, will revolve around the hijinks of an ensemble cast including Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan and Eugene Levy.
He made his feature directing debut last year with the low-budget marijuana comedy "How High." Youngest brother Jakob is leader of Grammy-winning rock band the Wallflowers.
