Ducks Sign Hebert To Extension
Goalie Guy Hebert, the only player who has remained on the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim roster since the NHL team's inception in 1993, signed a three-year contract extension Thursday. Terms were not announced.
Hebert, 32, has appeared in 41 games for the Ducks this season with a 16-18-7 record and a 2.31 goals-against average. He also has a career-high five shutouts this season, including Wednesday night's 3-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
"As we strive to build an identity for the club and (we) want to build a winner here in Anaheim we believe that ... one of the major players here is Guy Hebert," Mighty Ducks president and general manager Pierre Gauthier said. "To be able to keep him in our organization for the foreseeable future is a great step for us.
"Guy is special. He's an original Mighty Duck and means a lot to this franchise."
Hebert would have become an unrestricted free agent after this season, and Gauthier said he wanted to sign the goalie to avoid any distraction later on.
Hebert was Anaheim's first player, selected second overall in the 1993 NHL expansion draft from the St. Louis Blues. His 1997-98 season was cut short due to an injured right shoulder, which required surgery last April.
He has a career record of 115-132-33 with a 2.91 career goals-against average.
