DreamWorks Animation planning "The Croods" sequel

DreamWorks Animation wants to revisit the Stone Age.

The studio has greenlit a sequel to the caveman family comedy "The Croods," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The writing and directing team behind the first "Croods" movie -- Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco -- are expected to return for this next installment.

When it was first released in March, "The Croods" rose to the top of the box office with $44.7 millionin domestic ticket sales. The film has since gone on to earn a worldwide gross of more than $386 million.

The film captured the adventures of the world's first family, lead by patriarch Grugg (voiced by Nicolas Cage), as they learned how to survive from a more advanced caveman, Guy (voiced by Ryan Reynolds).Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, and Cloris Leachman also lent their voices to the first "Croods."

Negotiations are currently taking place for the cast members' returns.
