Dozens of Fla. homes damaged by severe storm

EDGEWATER, Fla. Dozens of homes in Central Florida were damaged as strong storms passed through the area Monday, producing several suspected tornadoes

At least 40 homes in the Terra Mar Village subdivision, located between Edgewater and Oak Hill, were damaged, according to Volusia County deputies. Some of the homes lost roofs, and trees and power lines were knocked down in the storm, CBS Affiliate WKMG reports.

"The sky got all black," one resident said. "and it just blew. The windows blew, everything blew."

WKMG correspondent Kala Rama described the scene as "a metal jungle."

No serious injuries were reported.

The National Weather Service will examine the damage Tuesday morning to determine whether a tornado touched down.

"Fortunately, we only have a few minor injuries there," said Pat Kuehn of Volusia County Fire Rescue. "Right now, we're calling it a significant wind event because we haven't confirmed it's a tornado."

A picture taken by WKMG correspondent Nicole Pesecky shows what appeared to be a funnel cloud in the Ocoee/Apopka area.

Video from WKMG viewers also showed suspected tornadoes in Orange County and Brevard County.

A large oak tree fell on the home of Dustin and Daniele Giamo inside the Terra Mar Village, but the couple wasn't there when the storm came through. They told WKMG they lost all of their keepsakes from their wedding, except for a framed picture.

Dustin Giamo said he had to crawl into his home to retrieve it.

Meanwhile, Sharon Sanders' carport fell onto her brand new SUV. "I'm still shaking. I've never seen anything like it," she said.

According to deputies, other calls received in Volusia County included a reports of trees and power lines down, blown transformers or traffic lights out in Deltona, Daytona Beach, DeLand and Ormond Beach.

No serious injuries were reported.

Law enforcement officials also reported seeing a funnel cloud in the Geneva area.

WKMG meteorologist Troy Bridges said more severe weather is possible in Central Florida on Tuesday. "We have the same scenario set up as Monday," Bridges said. "Some storms will be severe, and there could be tornadoes, just like yesterday."
