Dollar Tree Recalls 682K Halloween Toy Lanterns
(CBS) Flashlights are a good accessory for kids while trick-or-treating, but there are some new recalled products that should not accompany kids this Halloween -- or any other time.
Dollar Tree has recalled 682,000 children's Halloween pumpkin, ghost and skull lanterns, due to fire and burn hazards. The Chesapeake, Va.-based company says the bulb in the Chinese-manufactured toys can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards to users.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports the company has received one report of the bulb in a lantern overheating. No injuries have been reported.
The lanterns are about six and a half inches tall and were sold in orange, white and black. Model number 954437-13096-003-1005 is printed on the bottom of the lanterns.
The toys were sold at Dollar Tree, Dollar Bill$, Occasions, Deal$ and Dollar Tree Deal$ stores nationwide from August 2010 to October 2010 for about $1.
The CPSC recommends consumers take the recalled lanterns away from children immediately, remove and properly discard the batteries and return the lanterns to the store where purchased for a full refund. Contact Dollar Tree for more information.
