Dirty China Could Lead to Clean Profits

Smokestack image by curran.kelleher [cc, 2.0]China has the green, it's just not green... yet... so says the latest from Forbes. There are two inconvenient truths that America faces: 1. China holds $1.3 trillion in foreign exchange reserves, most of which are U.S. Treasury Bonds, and 2. About 25% of the particulate matter in the Los Angeles sky comes from the other end of the Pacific Rim, in China.

For Green Businesses and Technology, these two inconvenient truths could be a boon. Carl Delfeld, writing for Forbes, says that the pressure will build, from around the world and within China itself, for the country to clean up its environmental act. Delfeld continues: "This environmental initiative will require technology and expertise. This is where American business, the global leader in environmental technology, comes into the picture."

Given that China is the world leader in air pollution, and up to 750,000 of the country's infants face death from respiratory disease, cleaning up the country is both an opportunity and potential cash cow for Environmental Technology and Clean Energy companies.
