"Desperate Housewives" stars reflect on series end
(CBS) After ABC gave the official word that this season of "Desperate Housewives" would be the show's last, reactions came in from the long-running show's creator and cast.
"The only harder thing than creating a hit show is knowing when to end it," show creator Marc Cherry told reporters during a Sunday session of the Television Critics Association conference. "I'm very aware that some shows overstay their welcome and I didn't want that to happen with 'Desperate Housewives.'"

Cherry added, "We wanted to go out in the classiest way possible."
Shortly after the announcement, Eva Longoria responded to the news on Twitter.
"It's confirmed! We are filming our last season of Desperate Housewives!" she wrote. "I am so grateful for what the show has given me! We always knew we wanted to end on top and I thank ABC for giving us our victory lap! And a special thanks to Marc Cherry who forever changed my life!"
"We have such amazing fans! Watch this final season, it is going to be the best one!!" she added.
Felicity Huffman, who won an Emmy Award in 2005 for playing Lynette Scavo on the series, told Zap2it that she's feeling both "sad and grateful" about the news.
"Those feelings are odd companions," she said. "Sad and disappointed, [because] you go, 'Aw, shoot, this sucks.' And at the same time you go, 'Wow.'"
"I think it's so ideal because [we're] not having to wait and see what the ratings are in year eight and maybe being on the bubble," Huffman added. "I think ABC made a sacrifice of year nine in order to treat the show respectfully. Artistically, the writers get to work backward from the ending and choose the best way to end it, as opposed to going, 'Oh my God, they're not going to renew us' at episode 18, and scrambling to make all the ends meet."
The eighth (and now final) season of "Desperate Housewives" will premiere on Sept. 25.
