Denim: Hottest Trends
Denim pants are indispensable; everyone wears them for work or play. But if you have felt overwhelmed at the number of denim options available, have no fear.
The editors at Glamour magazine have selected this season's hottest denim trends, and executive fashion editor-at-large Suze Yalof Schwartz visited The Early Show to prove that you don't need to spend a lot to find great denim pants.
She put Debbye Turner, Harry Smith and Rene Syler on the Chic on a Shoestring challenge. Can you tell apart the splurge from the steal?
Cropped
This is the new length of jeans. They look great and elegant with high heels. Pair them with knits (especially animal print tops) to get a dress-up denim look.
Splurge: Jeans by Red Engine $130
Steal: Jeans by Mavi $70
The Difference: The Red Engine jeans offer a better fit and therefore cost more because they have more lycra content.
Pencil
This cut is the new cut for skirts. These must be worn with a pointy-toed flat or pump. Make sure you don't wear a sneaker with this type of jean.
Steal: Jeans by DKNY $68
Splurge: Jeans by Millergirl $125
The Difference: The Millergirl jean is more expensive because of the colorful stitching on the pockets and belt loop. Also, Millergirl is designed by Nicole Miller and is not produced in the same quantity as DKNY jeans.
Faded
Faded and distressed is the new denim casual look. Wear it on the weekend and for a lunch engagement. While this is not an office look, you can make the faded jeans look polished by wearing them with a colorful blazer and moccasins, which are the new sneaker this season.
Splurge: Jeans by Sass & Bide $200.00
Steal: Jeans by American Eagle $29.50
The Difference: The Sass & Bide jeans are from an Australian designer and they are hand distressed.
Bootcut:
This is probably the most flattering of all the cuts you'll find at the store. That's why this cut continues to appear at your local store each season. You can wear them with pumps, sneakers or flats, and they always look amazing.
Steal: Jeans by Express $49.50
Splurge: Jeans by Red Engine $132
The Difference: The Red Engine jeans are pricier because they are thicker; they will fade less quickly and last longer.
