Dell launches 10-inch Android tablet to rival iPad 2 in China

(CBS) - Today, Dell started selling a 10-inch tablet computer in China and that runs Google's Android operating system, expanding its push into a product category dominated by Apple's iPad, reports the Wall Street Journal

The new gadget, which will only be available in the Chinese market, is called the Dell Streak 10 Pro and is priced at $465.

This iPad rival from Dell features a 10.1-inch LCD display with 1280x800 screen resolution. "The device uses a 1Ghz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor that runs the Android 3.1 operating system. A 2-megapixel camera is placed on the tablet's front, and a 5-megapixel camera is placed in the rear. The battery life for the device is up to 12 hours, and the device has 16 GB storage," says PC World. It weighs about 1.6 pounds and is 0.51 inches thick.

Six months prior to the launch of the Dell Streak 10 Pro, Dell had released a 7-inch Android tablet at CES 2011. In 2010, Dell launched the Streak tablet, which has a 5-inch display and powered by Android 2.2. "After the initial hiccup whereby the Dell Streak 5 was lost in ambiguity due to its size, as it was too big to be a smartphone and too small to be a tablet, Dell launched [the] 7-inch Streak 7 in January 2011," reports International Business Times.

Besides Apple's iPad, the Dell Streak 10 Pro also has to compete with the super-thin Galaxy Tab 10.1 from Samsung, which is launching in China next month.

Will Dell give their tablet yet another makeover? This may never end.
