Defendant suspected of gouging man's eye flees court
SAN PEDRO, Calif. -- A California teen suspected of stabbing a woman and nearly gouging out a man's eye is on the run after police say he fled a San Pedro courthouse.
Abel Munguia, 19, had been out on bail and was in court Wednesday to face a judge on charges in the two separate cases, reports CBS LA. But according to Los Angeles police, he escaped court and cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet, leaving it in the city of Carson.
Munguia was arrested on Dec. 8, 2015 on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after police say he stabbed a 20-year-old woman in the back, the station reports. He was reportedly arrested again this month for mayhem in a case where he nearly gouged out the eye of a 50-year-old man.
A $1.25 million warrant has been issued for his arrest, police said.
Police say Munguia is considered to be very dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to call (310) 726-7861.
