Dawn Viens, missing Calif. woman, may be buried under husband's restaurant, sources say
(CBS/AP) TORRANCE, Calif. - Dawn Viens has been missing for over a year, but now detectives have reason to believe she may be hidden in the walls or buried under the floor of her husband's Lomita restaurant.
Detectives were led to the Thyme Contemporary Cafe Tuesday, Mar. 1 after receiving tips that David Viens, 47, had renovated his restaurant shortly after his wife Dawn disappeared, according to Lt. David Coleman.
Viens expanded his restaurant into the storefront next door, added new walls and poured concrete.
"It is mind-boggling if we find her here, and he has been coming here every day running his business with the knowledge that she's buried here," Dawn Viens' sister, Dayna Papin, told the Daily Breeze of Torrance.
Viens was arrested on Monday, Feb. 28 on suspicion of killing his 39-year-old wife, and could be charged soon, officials say.
Meanwhile, Viens is still recovering from the injuries he sustained after jumping off a Rancho Palos Verdes cliff a week ago after he spotted detectives watching him and led them on a chase. The chase ended with Viens pulling into a parking lot near the cliff, hopping a chain link fence and plunging 80 feet.
Viens was put in a medically induced coma. He recently had his breathing tube removed, allowing detectives to talk to him Tuesday.
Aside from searching the restaurant, detectives have also served search warrants at several locations associated with Viens, including his mother's home in Lomita, his brother's plumbing business in Gardena and the home he shares with his girlfriend in Torrance.
