NEW YORK (CBS) David Arquette has entered a rehab program following his separation from wife Courteney Cox in October.

His rep confirmed on Sunday that the actor entered treatment.

The rep had "no further information," People magazine reports, but a source told the magazine that Arquette entered rehab to seek help for alcohol issues and depression.

"He is in there for drinking and depression, not hard drugs. Rehab was inevitable," the source said. "He is dealing with a broken heart. He can't handle all the changes in his life. All his inner demons came out."

Estranged wife Courteney Cox has spoked out and extended her support.

"I really admire David and his choice to take charge and better his life," she told the magazine. "I love and support him."

During a recent interview on Howard Stern's radio show, Arquette said that his psychologist, whom he sees once a week, believed he was having a "nervous breakdown" (the actor later said he was joking) and confessed he'd been "drinking a lot."

"Everybody's worried and concerned about me," he added during the interview. "When I drink, I become a maniac."

A source told People that Arquette, who has a 6-year-old daughter with Cox, is having trouble dealing with the separation.

"He's just not handling this situation well," the source said. "He's really depressed."
