Dallas man admits he suffocated wife with pillow, police say

DALLAS - A 28-year-old woman was suffocated to death by her husband with a pillow two days before police found her body, according to police.

CBS DFW reports that police say that when they arrived at the home of Ceaira Sedia Nequay Ford and her husband Jonathan Edelen, Edelen told an officer, "Put the cuffs on me and take me to jail. I've killed my wife."

The 34-year-old allegedly gave a voluntary statement once at Dallas Police Headquarters that he killed his wife Monday, June 22. Neighbors told the station that they called police that night and officers came to the apartment complex but didn't take any action. Ford's body was found in the apartment two days later.

Edelen allegedly said it all started when his wife called and asked him to come home from work. They went to the grocery store and then bought some marijuana, according to the police report. When the couple came home they started arguing and Edelen complained that his wife wouldn't stop talking. He allegedly picked up their television and took it onto the patio to destroy it so she would quiet down. When that didn't work, Edelen allegedly said he put his hand over her mouth and she flipped over the patio railing onto a grassy area below.

The couple eventually ended up back inside their apartment, in their bedroom where they continued to argue, according to the police report. It alleges the disagreement escalated to the point where Edelen said he got on top of his wife while she was on the mattress, grabbed a pillow and forced it over her head, and that he also said he held the pillow down until she stopped moving and breathing.

Edelen was charged with murder and his bond is set at $1 million. The investigation is ongoing.

Ford's mother told CBS DFW that her daughter was afraid of Edelen and worried he would kill her.
