Create The Spa Experience At Home

While there is no substitute for being pampered at a spa, there is no need to pay the hefty price for some rest and rejuvenation. You can create a near-professional spa experience in your own home. All you need for this "Simple Pleasure" is the desire and some products.

Cheryl Kramer, beauty editor for Redbook visits The Early Show to show how you can convert your home into a personal spa.

Treatments:

Reflexology

  • Reflexology socks & gloves
Reflexology is more than just a hand or foot massage. The idea is that different parts of the hands and feet correspond to different parts of the body. So applying pressure to your toe can relieve sinus pain, or squeezing along the outside of your hand can help a backache. A spa reflexology appointment will cost you at least a dollar a minute.

The socks and gloves have a reflexology chart on them for easy use. For great results massage your hands and feet with your favorite hand cream/moisturizer then slip on the gloves and follow the chart for a soothing massage. You can leave the gloves on for 15 minutes. For best results, leave them on overnight; take them off to reveal hands that are soft and smooth.

  • Scalp massager - The Tingler
Gently massages scalp, stimulating acupressure points. This is a low-tech (no batteries, accessories or complicated instructions) copper handle with 10 flexible copper soft tipped copper wires.

Here is the basic technique: Open, and bend the Tingler's wires in the shape of a pumpkin - think of the tines as long, thin fingers - allow them to gently, with no effort, graze your head. The looser the fingers, the more goosebumpy or tickly the effect.

If you're looking for a head scratch, just tighten the fingers. Slowly, lower the Tingler on the head, watch out for eyes, let the fingers touch the back of the ears, top of the neck, and up again - twist, turn, or let the fingers touch the top of the head and forehead. Don't jab, push hard, use too much effort, or try to overly control the movement of the Tingler. Less is more!

To massage your body- instead of shaping the Tingler in a pumpkin or circle, make it into a semi-circle, or rake - or think of it as an open hand with long fingernails - then gently touch your back, arms, legs, necks, etc. It is great on skin or thin clothing. Kids and pets love this, too. (Seems to put kids in a trance or helps them go to sleep.

Body Scrub And Detox
  • Earth Therapeutics Natural Body Brush
Dry brushing is a great way to exfoliate, improve circulation, and according to the alternative healing practitioners, aid the lymph system in detoxification. Always brush towards your heart. Begin by sweeping the brush on the soles of your feet, over the tops of your feet, up your legs across your torso, gently, then on your hands and your arms. Do this out of the shower and without using a product. Do once or twice a week.
    Price: $7

  • Body Scrub System from Skin an Apothecary - Suds (bath cleanser) , Sugar Glow (exfoliant - detox), Soy Body Whip (moisturizer)
