Cops: Woman stole police cruiser from Boston airport
BOSTON - A Hingham, Mass. woman is accused of stealing a state police cruiser that was idling outside Logan Airport in Boston, reports CBS Boston.
Authorities say 29-year-old Danielle McDonough first came into contact with police after they found her sleeping on the floor in the airport baggage terminal early Wednesday morning. According to the station, police say there was an existing order in place prohibiting McDonough from trespassing at the airport, so authorities escorted her out.
Authorities say the woman then apparently got into an unattended police cruiser that was idling outside of the terminal and drove off at around 2:30 a.m.
A trooper later spotted the cruiser and attempted to pull McDonough over but she allegedly refused to stop and ran red lights before pulling into a parking lot at the Orient Heights MBTA station.
When the trooper exited his patrol car, McDonough allegedly backed up in his direction, causing him to move quickly out of the way.
McDonough was arrested and charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, operating with a suspended license, speeding and red light violations, according to CBS Boston.
The cruiser was not damaged and no one was injured.
Massachusetts State Police have launched an internal investigation to determine how McDonough managed to steal the cruiser.
