Cops: Va. man fatally shot wife, 3 daughters, self

CULPEPER, Va. -- Police say a 35-year-old man apparently shot and killed his wife, his three daughters and himself in a murder-suicide at a home in Culpeper, Va., reports CBS affiliate WUSA.

Culpeper County Sheriff Scott Jenkins said Monday that Clarence Washington, 35; wife Shauna Washington, 35; and daughters Onesha, 13, Onya, 6, and Olivia, 4, were found dead Sunday after what officials believe was a murder-suicide at their home just outside Culpeper, a town of about 15,000 residents 70 miles southwest of Washington.

Police say Clarence and Shauna Washington were in an argument on Saturday. On Sunday morning, the family reportedly didn't show up for church. The station reports that later in the afternoon Sunday, police responded to the home for a welfare check.

Everything reportedly appeared normal at the home, though police didn't go inside. Officers knocked, but didn't receive an answer, reports the station.

The family reportedly was found dead around 10 p.m. Sunday night by Shauna Washington's mother, who climbed in a window.

Clarence Washington was a janitor in the Culpeper school district, the station reports.

The mayor and neighbors say the Washingtons' neighborhood and Culpeper are quiet, family areas, and they are shocked by the news.
