Cops: N.J. teen charged with spiking teacher's drink
BAYVILLE, N.J. --Kelly Grosse, a southern New Jersey teacher, was rushed to the hospital after police say a student added something to her drink that made her sick.
On Tuesday morning, a student allegedly put Visine in Grosse's drink, CBS New York reported.
"We were at the hospital for a few hours," her husband, Tom Grosse, said. "I don't really think she did anything to deserve this."
Grosse said his wife loves the students at Central Regional High School as if they were her own.
"Of course the whole thing is pretty upsetting to my wife," he told the station.
According to the FDA, swallowing saline solution can cause a slew of health problems including nausea, vomiting, restricted breathing, lethargy, and in extreme cases coma. Tom Grosse said his wife's condition has improved.
Superintendent Dr. Triantafillo Parlapanides spoke of consequences for the student involved.
"He's suspended until a board hearing and once the hearing is completed, they'll determine what happens to the student," Dr. Parlapanides told CBS New York.
The student is also in trouble with Berkeley Township Police. The juvenile was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault on a school board member.
He was released to his parents pending juvenile court proceedings.
