Cops: Mass. teacher made child porn, kept girls' underwear

(CBS) NEWTON, Mass. - A second grade teacher was arrested on child pornography charges Tuesday after police say they found hundreds of illegal images, a homemade video featuring a child, and multiple pairs of little girls' underwear in his home.

David Ettlinger, 34, has been teaching in the Newton school system for 12 years.

Police say they believe Ettlinger, who they tracked down using his internet activity, took the girls' underwear from bathrooms, pools, and changing rooms. CBS Boston reports that he allegedly logged into an online forum for child pornography called "Dreamboard" more than 20 times in 2010.

Ettlinger may also face charges of posing a child in the state of nudity after police seized an illegal video that he allegedly acknowledged making.

According to CBS Boston, Ettlinger told police that he is the man in the video and that while the victim is not one of students, she is someone who trusted him.

"He identified the girl as somebody that he babysat for, the daughter of a family friend," said David Keatin, the Assistant District Attorney in court.

Ettlinger has been put on paid administrative leave. The Superintendent of Newton Public Schools told reporters that the popular teacher passed a background check in 2010.

Ettlinger faces charges of assault and battery on a child under 14 and posing a child in a state of nudity. He is also facing federal charges out of Louisiana for participating in a child exploitation enterprise.

He was arraigned Tuesday afternoon and held on $10,000 bail.
