TV Violence? Cops say mom shot at screen while kids were watching

ALGONQUIN, Ill. - A mother of three is free on bond after police say she shot her television while her children were watching, reports CBS Chicago.

Algonquin Deputy Police Chief Andrew Doles says police and the Department of Children and Family Services went to the family's home about a month ago "to investigate a report that the mother there had shot her television."

"The woman let us into the house and we found that the television was indeed shattered," said Doles. And the officers did a great job there and recovered the rifle she had used to shoot the television."

Doles says the woman - 40-year-old Jennifer Ullery - told officers she was upset with what her children were watching on TV - and that they'd been watching too much TV in general.

Doles says the children - ages 15, 11 and 6 - were not hurt, and the DCFS reportedly says it has found evidence of neglect.

The TV was a 50-inch Panasonic flat-screen, Doles says. He says the actual incident occurred January 20 and police learned about it and responded February 9.

Doles told the station that no attempt had been made to replace the shattered TV screen. He also said that police had previously been called to the home before because of issues between Ullery and her husband.

Ullery is charged with aggravated reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a firearm owner ID card - and three counts of endangering the health and safety of a child.
