Cops: Girl slashed in the face on school bus in New Jersey
PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - Police said a 16-year-old girl was slashed in the face by another teenage female on a school bus, reports CBS Philly.
The incident occurred around the time of dismissal at Pennsauken High School in Pennsauken, N.J., according to the station. Authorities said the victim was standing near the front of the bus when the suspect, also 16, cut the side of her face with an unidentified sharp object. Neither girl has been identified.
CBS Philly reports a Pennsauken police officer who happened to be at the scene immediately intervened and took the accused 16-year-old into custody.
The victim is being treated at Cooper Hospital in Camden, N.J. The station reports her injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
The suspect is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of a weapon on school ground, according to authorities. She will be transferred to the Camden County Youth Detention Center.
Pennsauken Police Chief John Coffey said the attack is an atypically violent one for the high school. Police have responded to fights at the school before, he said, but the incidents usually do not involve weapons and have not resulted in such serious injuries.
