Cops: Boy, 6, "larger than normal," stabbed grandma

HANCOCK, Md. - A "larger than normal" 6-year-old Maryland boy was pepper-sprayed by police officers after he allegedly stabbed his grandmother, authorities say, according to CBS DC.

Sheriff's deputies were called to a home in Hancock around 8:30 a.m. Monday on a report of a boy who was "out of control," according to a sheriff's office press release. The boy had allegedly already stabbed his grandmother and was attempting to stab her again, as well as his mother, according to the release.

When law enforcement personnel entered the home, the "larger than normal" 6-year-old boy -- who is described as weighing about 100 pounds -- allegedly charged at the deputies with a "large butcher type knife" in each hand, waving and slashing the knives in an attempt to stab the deputies, reports the station.

One of the deputies fired a blast of pepper spray at the boy, which caused him to drop the knives and fall to the ground. The boy was taken into custody without any further incident, according to the station.

The boy was reportedly taken to Mertitus Medical Center for a mental evaluation. No deputies were injured in the incident.

No charges were immediately filed due to the boy's young age.
