Cop shot 4 times, raced to hospital

UNIONTOWN, Ohio – Authorities say an officer was shot four times while responding to a domestic call at a home here Sunday evening.

The Stark County Sheriff's Office says the officer was met with gunfire and an exchange of gunfire ensued.

The suspected gunman is dead, reports CBS Cleveland affiliate WOIO-TV, adding that police weren't saying whether he died from their bullets or a self-inflicted wound.

The officer was transported to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition, WOIO says.

Jessica Jamison, who lives across the street and told WOIO she is the suspect's sister-in-law, said the dispute began when the suspect accused his wife of taking too long washing her face in the bathroom. Hen then punched his wife in the face twice and broke her nose, Jamison says.

Police had been called to the home on domestic disturbance calls before, WOIO reports.

Uniontown police, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal investigation, and the Stark County Sheriff's office remained on scene overnight Monday, WOIO added.
