Convert a PowerPoint Presentation to Video

So you've just delivered a killer PowerPoint presentation to the marketing team, and, as you bask in the glory of a job well done, someone approaches you and says, "Hey, Tim, I'd love for the folks in Dublin to see this. Can you please convert this to video, add some narration, and post it on the company share?" How on earth do you do that? Well, we have the answer.

Actually, Tiplet has the scoop on converting PowerPoint to video, but we're sharing it with you as well. As Tiplet points out, converting PowerPoint to video is a pretty radical operation, and the traditional file format conversion approach would cost money and include some unpalatable compromises. A better solution: Use screencasting software to record the screen while you step through the presentation. The screencasting program will create a video of whatever's on screen, and allow you to record narration at the same time. It's a pretty clever idea.

Tiplet suggests using a free screencasting program called CamStudio, and that's not a bad program. As an alternative, I'd also suggest ScreenToaster, a free screencasting Web app that I discussed a while back and which is the program I used to record video tutorials like how to organize Outlook with flags and categories and how to use Office 2007's Quick Access Toolbar.
