Connick Croons On Broadway
Broadway's best and brightest will find out Tuesday morning if they're in the running for this year's Tony Awards.
Among the shows expected to grab a nice share of the nominations is one of the hottest tickets in town, the revival of 1955 musical, "The Pajama Game."
It stars crooner Harry Connick, Jr. and Broadway veteran Kelli O'Hara.
They stopped by The Early Show and
Connick told co-anchor Hannah Storm the response to the revival has been "really gratifying. I had no idea it would be this successful. It's really pretty amazing."
What makes the chemistry between Connick and O'Hara so good?
"I think we have a lot in common," O'Hara replied. "We like to work together. He's very easy. Everybody who knows him, he makes it easy for you."
Connick concurred, saying, "I like to have a good time. I think the older I get, the more I realize it just takes too much effort to make a mess out of everything. You know what I'm saying? That was fine when I was 20-years-old, and Kelli's so amazing to work with. She's easy. She's a pro. She knows what she has to do, and it's fun. There's never any complaining. We just go out and have a great, great time. It's a happy show."
The original won several Tonys. What's the key to making it a hit the second time around?
"I think that we just kind of put a modern flare on it," O'Hara answered. "Everything is still the same. It's still in the '50s. It's just a fresh version of it. And people want that right now."
