Computer Glitch Gives Dutch Plates Nazi Acronym

The Dutch auto registration authority says a computer glitch led to about 100 cars being assigned license plates that included the letters NSB - the acronym for a defunct political party reviled for its World War II collaboration with the Nazis.

Spokesman Hans van Geenhuizen of the State Traffic Service says the blunder was quickly spotted and no cars were actually fitted with the NSB plates.

Van Geenhuizen said Tuesday one person complained about being issued registration documents over the weekend including the letters NSB. But he added that no license plates featuring the letters were printed or fitted to new cars.

A new rule came into force last year banning political acronyms from Dutch license plates.
