Clinton Suggests Voters Should Vote on Record, Not Personality

(CBS)
From CBS News' Fernando Suarez:

ST. CLAIRVILLE, OHIO -- Hillary Clinton told a crowd of supporters tonight in southeastern Ohio that they should consider voting not for whom they like, but the person most qualified for the job.

"We have to think about this decision, its more like a hiring choice than it is a voting choice," Clinton said.

"You know, you can vote for somebody or against somebody for whatever reason you want, but if you think about hiring somebody, you know, hiring somebody to fix your house or hiring a surgeon to perform an operation, it's really what we're asking in this election, because the American people are the ones who will make that hiring decision."

Clinton has been pushing her campaign message that experience should trump popularity or speeches, referring to Barack Obama's campaign, who's strength, Clinton suggests, is built merely on words and rhetoric.

During the question-and-answer portion of the event, one gentleman asked Clinton of the prospect of a "dream ticket" with her as the nominee and Obama as her running mate. Clinton, who's been asked this question before, downplayed the suggestion saying that she needs to win the nomination first and neither she nor Obama want to "count our chickens before they are hatched."

Another gentleman said voting for Clinton was "a no-brainer" and went on in an angry tirade to accuse the media of unfavorable coverage of Clinton. The man said Clinton should "condemn" the media instead of "listen to them," drawing drew enthusiastic applause but silence from Clinton.
