Clinton Raised A Lot In February, But...
Reports Politico: "Hillary Clinton's campaign is set to announce later today that she's raised $35 million in the month of February, a huge month by any standard measure of political fundraising and her best of the campaign." The campaign is set to discuss its fundraising later today.
The figure looks like good news for the former first lady, except for this: CBS News senior political consultant Marc Ambinder reported on Feb. 22nd that rival Barack Obama is on track to raise more than $50 million this month. (Patrick Ruffini has details.) Obama spokesman Bill Burton told Politico today the candidate has raised "considerably more than" Clinton this month.
Both Democratic candidates are raising unprecedented amounts – Obama, who enjoys a fundraising advantage over Clinton, raised $36 million last month – but they are also spending the money quickly. Obama spent more than $30 million last month, and Clinton, who has lent her campaign about $5 million, spent not much less. As of January, Obama has raised $138 million to Clinton's $121 million.
