"Their (al Qaeda) great victory has been the spread of their ideology across a wide geographic area: Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South Asia," said Morell. "On September 10, 2011, al Qaeda was on one place in the planet - Afghanistan. Today they are in 30 to 40 countries."

Morell spoke with CBS News' Charlie Rose about how the terror group has been able to continue to pose a risk to America.
