Chicago Strip Club Owner Gets Prison for Tax Crime, $12 Million Found in Warehouse
(CBS/AP) A prominent Chicago-area strip club owner who kept a stash of $12 million in a warehouse has been sentenced to a year in prison for tax crimes.
A tearful Michael Wellek of Libertyville, Ill. told a federal judge Friday that he takes full responsibility for his actions. Wellek owns Heavenly Bodies in Elk Grove Village, Cowboys in Markham and Skybox in Harvey.
IRS agents seized the $12 million from a warehouse near one club in 2003.
In addition to prison time, Wellek's sentence also includes 6 months of post-prison home confinement. He had faced a maximum sentence of six years.
It was revealed Friday that he's been cooperating with the government.
Wellek pleaded guilty in November to failing to file a tax return for 2000 and to obstructing the Internal Revenue Service.
That old dance.
