Adorable besties: Cheetah cub and rescue puppy

RICHMOND, Va. -- Cheetah cub Kumbali and Kago, a rescue puppy, have a unique and adorable friendship.

When Kumbali was only two weeks old, his caretakers at the Metro Richmond Zoo realized he had lost weight over two consecutive checkups. In hopes of helping the cub gain weight, they pulled Kumbali from his mother so he could be bottle fed.

Zoo staff had originally planned to reintroduce Kumbali to his family, but when they discovered that Kumbali's mom, Khari, wasn't producing enough milk for her three cubs they decided to continue bottle-raising him.

Still, there was something missing: little Kumbali was in need of a companion.

This is where Kago comes in. Kago is a labrador mix puppy that was adopted from a pet rescue organization when he was 10 weeks old. After a quarantine period, Kago was ready to meet his new best friend.

The two were introduced to each other and after a thorough inspection and some uncertainty, Kago and Kumbali quickly became the best of pals.

The zoo released video of the two friends.
