Sharon Stone is splitting from her husband, Phil Bronstein, after five years of marriage. The "Basic Instinct" star and her newspaper editor husband decided to part company following her return from filming the spy-film "A Different Loyalty," with Rupert Everett. The couple was married on Valentine's Day 1998 and have had their ups and downs since then. Bronstein suffered a heart attack in the first year of their marriage and three years ago they adopted a baby boy, Roan. Two years ago the actress arranged a Father's Day visit to Los Angeles Zoo, where her husband was bitten on the foot whilst feeding a poisonous 7-foot Komodo dragon, leaving him requiring tendon surgery. There were media reports that this was Stone's revenge for photos of Bronstein shown in Star Magazine enjoying cocktails with several attractive blondes. In the same year, Stone collapsed and almost died after suffering a brain hemorrhage. Bronstein, editor-in-chief of the San Francisco Chronicle is currently staying at the couple's mansion in San Francisco, while Stone stays in their Los Angeles home.
Grand Prairie police ticketed singer Justin Guarini after witnesses said he almost ran over a young girl with a personal watercraft at Joe Pool Lake, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. Guarini, 24, was the runner-up on Fox's "American Idol" last year. He was with winner Kelly Clarkson, his co-star in the new movie "From Justin to Kelly," and about five friends at the lake Saturday, when the incident allegedly occurred. The citation was issued at Loyd Park on the lake's west side around 7 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Chris Chopin, lake patrol supervisor. He said Guarini and Clarkson "didn't understand what the laws were." Clint Heizer said Guarini ran the watercraft up on shore, stopping a few feet short of his 5-year-old daughter, Allison. "I was in Justin's face talking to him about what he had just done, and that's when I realized who he was," Heizer, a city marshal in North Richland Hills, told the newspaper in Tuesday's editions. Guarini rolled off the moving watercraft before it stopped and ran away laughing, Heizer said. If convicted of unsafe boat operation, Guarini faces a fine of up to $2,000 and a maximum 180 days in jail, according to a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Web site.
Jennifer Lopez has filed a petition with California's labor commission that accuses her former representative, Benny Medina, of failing to have a valid talent agent's license while managing her career. The singer-actress fired Medina in June after five years of service. While the state has different rules governing the activities of managers and talent agents, Lopez's attorney, Barry Hirsch, said Medina, who worked as her manager, inappropriately performed talent agent functions, such as negotiating deals for her upcoming film "Shall We Dance?" and a sponsorship agreement with L'Oreal cosmetics. Medina told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Lopez always had a talent agent while he worked with her and denied that his activities crossed over into that territory. "This is a real display of lack of gratitude and appreciation for what other people do in the building of a career, and at the same time it shows tremendous avarice and greed," he added. The document filed Wednesday seeks to invalidate all remaining partnerships between Medina and Lopez. It also said Lopez, 32, wants Medina to repay everything he earned while working for her, plus 10 percent interest.
Jack Osbourne took a close look at his friends and realized he didn't want to turn out like them, and that's when he checked himself into rehab. The 17-year-old son of rocker Ozzy Osbourne returned home June 18 after two months of treatment for alcohol and drug abuse. He entered a Pasadena, Calif. hospital after an epiphany he had while partying with pals. "I took myself out of the picture for a second and I looked around at every single person in the room -- at who they were, how old they were and what they had going on in their lives," Osbourne told MTV News. "A lot of them were near 30, unemployed, living off their parents. There were heroin addicts; there were the world's biggest couch potatoes. And it was like, I don't want to be like that. I don't want my life to be controlled by a drug." Osbourne, who co-stars with his family on the MTV reality series "The Osbournes," said he discussed the problem with his mother, Sharon Osbourne, while he was high on OxyContin and other drugs. "I was really loaded and I just sat on my mom's bed and I just said, 'I am going to go pack my bags ... I'm ready to go, I want to go, I need to go.'"
Brandy is confirming reports that she's split from her husband, Robert Smith, the father of her 1-year-old daughter. The 24-year-old singer-actress announced in February 2002 that she had been secretly wed to Smith, a music producer, for several months. Four months later, she gave birth to her first child, daughter Sy'rai. MTV documented the preparations for the birth with the reality series "Brandy: Special Delivery." A former teen pop princess, Brandy also starred in her own sitcom, "Moesha," from 1996 to 2001. Her latest album, "Full Moon," was released last year.
David Beckham finally pulled on the famous white jersey of the Real Madrid soccer team at his long-awaited introduction Wednesday as millions of adoring fans watched worldwide. With television cameras broadcasting the ceremony live, team president Florentino Perez introduced his fourth multimillion-dollar acquisition in as many years and hailed Beckham as one of the best English soccer players ever. "David, welcome to the league of dreams," Perez told the former Manchester United star. Beckham opened a brief speech by thanking team officials in Spanish. "Gracias," he said with a smile, then added: "Football is everything to me and joining Real Madrid is a dream come true." Beckham didn't answer questions but later told Real Madrid TV that he never hesitated in making his selection. "This was the only team I wanted to come to," the 28-year-old midfielder said. Beckham, who's as famous for his fashion sense as his athletic skills, transferred to Real Madrid for $40 million last week after 13 years with Manchester United. His wife, Victoria -- formerly Posh Spice of the Spice Girls pop group -- sat in the front row at the ceremony.
Farm Aid, a concert that raises money to keep families on their farms, will hold its annual show Sept. 7 at the Germain Amphitheater. The lineup includes Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Neil Young, who organized the first Farm Aid in 1985, and Dave Matthews, who joined the board of directors in 2001. Sheryl Crow, Brooks & Dunn and Trick Pony will also perform. "We salute these generous artists lined up for Farm Aid 2003," said Farm Aid communications director Mark Smith in a statement. "The Farm Aid concert is an inspiration to Farm Aid's year-round work to keep family farmers on the land. Ohio music fans will have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see all these artists on the same stage." Nelson plans to be on the road doing concerts to help raise money for the presidential run of Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio. The 70-year-old singer said he's endorsing Kucinich because the Cleveland Democrat has a history of standing up for heartland Americans who are overlooked. "I will be doing all I can to raise his profile with voters," Nelson said Wednesday.
