CBS News Announces 2010 Campaign Team

CBS News is adding more political reporters to its outstanding 2010 election team and new features to its political coverage, it was announced today by Sean McManus, president CBS News and Sports. The following overview presents a snapshot by division of the additional coverage that will be provided this fall:

CBS NEWS

Chief Political Consultant Marc Ambinder and Political Analyst and Contributor John Dickerson will join a veteran group led by CBS EVENING NEWS Anchor and Managing Editor Katie Couric that includes Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer, Senior Political Correspondent Jeff Greenfield and Correspondents Wyatt Andrews, Sharyl Attkisson, Jan Crawford, Nancy Cordes, Byron Pitts, Bill Plante, Chip Reid, Dean Reynolds and Political Analyst Dan Bartlett. Anthony Mason will once again help break down and analyze election night results for CBS's viewers.

"This already is one of the most-anticipated midterm elections in a generation, and CBS News is adding exceptional talent to offer our audiences comprehensive coverage in a complex and exciting political environment," said McManus. "Complementing the award-winning tradition of CBS News with the latest technology, our remarkable team will completely cover all aspects of this pivotal election season."

Senior Political Producers Rob Hendin and Jill Jackson will coordinate the political coverage for all broadcasts from behind the scenes, working with Washington Bureau Chief Christopher Isham. Elections Director Anthony Salvanto and the CBS News Election Unit are tracking the nation's hottest races and providing in-depth analyses on the electorate, the battlegrounds and the trends to watch in the 2010 fight for Congress.

The team's reports and political analysis will be prominently featured across all CBS News broadcasts and platforms on the run-up to election night 2010 on Nov. 2, including CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE COURIC, THE EARLY SHOW, FACE THE NATION, CBS Radio News and CBSNews.com.

CBSNEWS.COM

CBSNews.com also has assembled an experienced team of insiders to report and analyze this year's crucial midterm election online. Political Reporters Brian Montopoli, Kevin Hechtkopf and Stephanie Condon lead Web-only comprehensive coverage that strives to satisfy even hardcore political junkies.

New features being rolled out on CBSNews.com include (www.cbsnews.com/election2010):

• The HOT RACES INTERACTIVE MAP, which will be updated with the latest developments from the CBS News Elections Unit on the key races around the country;

• The HOT RACE OF THE WEEK, a weekly in-depth analysis of one key race;

• HOT ADS OF THE WEEK, which spotlights the most interesting and newsworthy political ads and lets viewers vote on their favorite.

These new features join CBSNews.com's already popular POLITICAL HOTSHEET blog ( https://www.cbsnews.com/hotsheet), which will continue to provide comprehensive coverage of the hottest candidates and issues right up to Election Day.

CBSNews.com will also stream special editions of WASHINGTON UNPLUGGED, its daily politics show as well as special @katiecouric webcasts that will include exclusive interviews with newsmakers, panel discussions and extensive analysis and commentary from the CBS News political team about the latest developments.

CBS RADIO NEWS

CBS Radio News' on-air and online coverage will include comprehensive looks at the hot races and extensive coverage of the endangered incumbents throughout the fall leading up to Election Night. As it has done every Election Night since 1932, CBS News will provide the nation's most comprehensive radio coverage when Americans elect members of the 112th Congress, candidates for governor in 37 states and two territories and decide numerous ballot issues.

This year, CBS Radio broadcast coverage will also be available to listeners around the world live on the Internet (http://www.cbsradionews.com/), and a dedicated new media team will provide a constant stream of postings on Twitter and live blogs, inviting listeners to join in a spirited interactive debate about the results' implications.

Veteran National Correspondent Dan Raviv will anchor CBS Radio's wall-to-wall coverage of the results, joined by White House Correspondents Peter Maer and Mark Knoller, Capitol Hill Correspondent Bob Fuss and leading analysts in the Washington Bureau and at CBS News' headquarters in New York.

CBS Radio broadcasts will be augmented by reports from CBS-owned news radio stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, San Francisco and Philadelphia, and by reporters in other key locations.

CBS NEWS POLLING

In addition to providing data for television, radio and Internet reports, the CBS News Polling Unit will present ongoing analysis and snapshots of the electorate with frequent polls conducted among voters.

Polls will explore the mood of the electorate: where voters see themselves and the country headed; their views of hot button issues facing the nation such as the economy, immigration and health care reform; and how those views may affect their vote choice in November. Polls will also explore attitudes toward the two political parties, the reach and reaction to the Tea Party, the influence of the President in the midterm elections, as well as comparisons to past midterms.

In addition to national polls, the CBS News Poll will conduct statewide polling as well as polling among specific - and potentially critical - subgroups of voters.
