Cavs Sign Veteran Newman
Johnny Newman, a free agent forward who played for the Denver Nuggets last season, will play this year for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers announced Sunday that they signed Newman to a contract. Terms and length of the deal were not disclosed.
The team also said it waived Damon Bailey, Charlie Melvin and Rocky Walls after practice Sunday.
Newman, a 6-foot-7 forward, averaged 14.7 points in 74 games for the Nuggets last season.
Newman, 35, has averaged 11.7 points in his 12-year career and has played for six NBA teams. He averaged a career-best 16.9 points during the 1990-91 season with the Charlotte Hornets.
This will be his second stint with the Cavaliers. He was taken by the Cleveland in the second round of the 1986 draft.
