Cavaliers Rout Raptors 122-88
Wesley Person tied a career high with 33 points and the Cleveland Cavaliers reached a season-high point total in routing the Toronto Raptors 122-88 Wednesday night.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 21 points and 17 rebounds, and Brevin Knight passed for 17 assists as Cleveland won a second straight game for the first time in 30 days.
Rookie Derek Anderson had 13 points in 17 minutes in his return after missing 15 games with a knee injury. The Cavs were 6-9 without their 13th overall 1997 draft pick.
Person set a club record for a half with six 3-pointers in the first, sparking Cleveland to a 65-43 lead. Person hit five 3s in the second quarter, when he scored 20 of his 25 first-half points. Person's only miss from 3-point range came with less than two minutes left in the first half.
Person, 11-for-15 from the field, did not attempt a 3-point shot in the second half.
Cleveland took control of the game with a 22-8 run in the second quarter, extending a 35-29 lead to 57-37 with 4:14 left before halftime. Person scored 14 of the points, hitting three 3-pointers, a jump shot, a layup and a free throw.
In the third, Ilgauskas scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Person scored eight points as the Cavs increased their lead to 101-65 going into the fourth.
Doug Christie led Toronto with 16 points. Dee Brown scored 13 points and John Wallace had 12 for the Raptors, who lost for the ninth time in 11 games.
Cedric Henderson added 18 for the Cavaliers.
Anderson, who couldn't play in the Schick rookie game at All-Star weekend last month due to a sprained right knee, made an immediate impact when he entered the game with 40 seconds left in the first quarter.
He was fouled 11 seconds later after stealing a Raptors pass and driving more than half the length of the court. An 88 percent free throw shooter, Anderson split the two foul shots.
The rookie hit a 3-pointer shot 52 seconds later, and barely a minute after that, he made one of his trademark baseline drives to the basket, was fouled, and made both free throws.
Notes: Cleveland shot 55 percent from the field and set season highs in points, victory margin and assists (36). ... Toronto was outrebounded 47-29.
