Caught on tape: Woman kicked off flight for not putting dog in carrier
CHICAGO -- A passenger on a United Express flight from Salt Lake City to Chicago captured the dramatic moments a woman in her 80s refused to put her dog in a carrier and was removed from the plane by police, reports CBS Chicago.
A United spokesman told CBS Chicago the dog had snapped at the flight crew and prompted the pilot to request the woman place the dog in a carrier. When she refused, the flight returned to the gate, and police officers boarded the plane to remove the woman.
According to rules posted on the United website, any pet traveling in the cabin must be carried in a kennel that can fit under the seat, and remain there at all times.
The passenger who recorded the video uploaded it to YouTube. The video has now been viewed more than a million times. The person who made the video added captions stating the dog had been growling and snapping at the crew, and that the woman cursed at a flight attendant who asked her to put the dog in a carrier.
The confrontation between the woman and officers gets heated.
The officers tell the woman she has to get off the plane. She replies saying she wants her money back first. When an officer told the woman she was holding up the rest of the plane, she told the officer they were holding her up.
The officer warned the woman she would go to jail if she didn't leave the plane.
"I'm not going to go to jail mister. You're looking to the wrong lady," she says in the video.
When an officer picked up her dog, she began screaming.
"Don't you take my dog, you louse! I'm going to sue this country!"
After the woman was removed from the plane she could still be heard yelling.
The flight was operated by SkyWest. A spokesman told CBS Chicago another person traveling with the woman also left the flight before it continued to Chicago.
Salt Lake City Police told CBS Chicago no charges were filed. Police said the woman is in her 80s and, "ended up having a medical condition." Her husband -- who is also a nurse caregiver -- explained what was going on, so they let her go without charges.
