Caught on tape: Stanley Cup drops, is dented

ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland -- The Stanley Cup is sporting a new dent after a table it was put on collapsed in Newfoundland, Canada.

The silver trophy was being readied for a helicopter flight from St. John's to Bonavista, the hometown of former Boston Bruin Michael Ryder, when the table crumbled.

The incident was caught on tape.

Officials quickly righted the cup during the welcoming ceremony. The famous trophy, known as the Holy Grail of hockey, sustained no major damage.

Ryder recently signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars.

The trophy has been involved in a number of fun-filled moments over the decades.

It's usually taken to the hometowns of the National Hockey League's championship team's players and coaches during the off-season following the championship wins.

In that time, it's been lost, used as beer mug, a champagne cup, a dog bowl, and used in baptisms.
