Carlina White's Dad Wants Tit-for-Tat

Carlina White's father says he wants his daughter's alleged abductor to be sentenced to as many years in prison as the woman being held in the kidnapping cost him and White from what could have been their time together: 23 years.

"Give (her) 23. She took 23 from me, so she needs 23," Carl Tyson told "Early Show" co-anchor Erica Hill Tuesday.

White was 19 days old when she was snatched from Harlem Hospital in 1987, allegedly by Ann Pettway, who raised her. White made national headlines when she was reunited with her biological family.

White, who grew up as Nejdra Nance, always suspected Pettway wasn't her biological mother because Pettway couldn't provide a birth certificate. Last month, White found a baby picture of herself on the website of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. After contacting authorities, DNA tests confirmed her suspicions that Pettway wasn't her biological mother, which led to the emotional reunion with her birth family.

Police say Pettway confessed posing as a nurse and kidnapping White back in 1987, saying she did it because she was having trouble having kids of her own.

Now, White and her biological family are trying to pick up the pieces of 23 years apart.

Tyson told Hill Tuesday the family is going "great."

He says he's in touch with White every day - by text message, which he doesn't like, for two days, but every third day, by phone. He says he told her, "Daddy's gotta hear you on the third day. I gotta hear that voice!"

White, says Tyson, doesn't want to talk about the past so, "Now, I just gotta move forward (with her), step-by-step"

What does he want to see happen to Pettway if she's convicted? "Give (her) 23 (years)," he told Hill. "She took 23 from me, so she needs 23. … That's all I can ask for."

He says he only wants to know why what happened to White, happened. "She (Pettway) took a lot from me. … (But)I will hear her out. If they let me."
