California girl, 3, dies after being left in hot car

POMONA, Calif. -- Authorities in Pomona say a 3-year-old girl died from heat exposure after being found in a sweltering car after a family outing.

Police Lt. Eddie Vasquez says the girl's parents and siblings all believed the girl exited the vehicle with everyone else Sunday afternoon.

She was eventually found unconscious still inside the car and rushed to a hospital in grave condition. The girl never regained consciousness and later died.

Temperatures in Pomona topped 90 degrees on Sunday.

Vasquez says investigators do not suspect foul play and initial findings show the death was a tragic accident.

City News Service reports Monday that an autopsy is planned.

Earlier this month, two Louisiana day care workers were arrested after a 22-month-old girl was left for two hours in a hot vehicle and died.
