Buzz Briefs: Robin Williams, Ellen

Robin Williams Is Candid About Divorce On Ellen

Chicago native Robin Williams joined talk show host Ellen DeGeneres as she hosted her show from Chicago on Monday.

DeGeneres was thrilled to have Williams, a fellow comedian, on as a guest.

During the interview, Williams was candid about his divorce.

When Ellen asked how things were on the home front, Williams didn't hold back, but in a good way.

"Things are OK. I'm in the middle of a divorce but we're trying to do it kind of the way we got married, with love," Williams admitted and then received a round of applause from the audience.

"I'm lucky, you know, with someone like Marsha and we have amazing kids and it's not a slash and burn. I think a lot of times divorce can be like circumcision with a weed whacker … or penalties for early withdrawal as we find out or depositing into another account but you have to be careful but the idea that it's going with love I think is important and for me it's been like … gracias … a good thing," he said.

"I'm happy that you're happy and that's the way to do it," DeGenres said.

John Mayer Caught In "Wonderland" With Aniston

2Even singer/songwriter John Mayer uses his mix of charm and sarcasm on the red carpet.

When the heartthrob, who formerly was dating singer Jessica Simpson, was asked about being caught on a beach with former "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston by photographers, he couldn't hide the truth.

"You know what I did? I looked at it and I said, that's about right. What am I going to say? That's not me?" he told the Associated Press.

Scarlett Johansson Flashes Her New Rock On NYC Red Carpet

3Hours after confirming her engagement to Ryan Reynolds, Scarlett Johansson flashed a diamond ring at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala.

The 23-year-old actress unveiled the sparkler while walking the red carpet - sans Reynolds - at Monday night's celeb-studded event, which drew the likes of Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Johansson, flanked by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, posed for the cameras in a cream gown by the designers that showed off her curves. Her publicist, Marcel Pariseau, said earlier in the day that Johansson and Reynolds were engaged and had not yet set a wedding date.

The couple reportedly had been dating for more than a year. Their relationship status was speculated about in gossip columns and tabloids, which published paparazzi shots of the pair.

When rumors began swirling in early '08 that Reynolds had proposed, Johansson deflected a question by The Associated Press with a joke about her affection for presidential hopeful Barack Obama: "My heart belongs to Barack, and that is who I am currently, finally, engaged to. Yes."

Johansson's recent credits include "The Other Boleyn Girl" and "The Nanny Diaries." Reynolds recently starred in "Definitely, Maybe." He was previously engaged to Alanis Morissette.

The Police's 30-Year Journey Coming To An End In NYC

4The Police, who reunited for a 30th-anniversary world tour last year, say their final concert will take place this summer in New York City.

Frontman Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland made the announcement Tuesday at a news conference with Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The Police say they have a special connection with the Big Apple. They say in a statement: "We kicked off our very first American tour at CBGB's in 1978, and this summer, 30 years later, our journey will come full circle as we play our final show here in New York City."

The concert date and venue will be announced later. Proceeds will go toward arts programming for public television.

The band split up in 1984.

Vanessa Williams: It's Never To Late To Finish School

5Nearly 25 years after leaving Syracuse University, Vanessa Williams will get her bachelor of fine arts degree this weekend.

The 45-year-old actress-singer, who stars in ABC's "Ugly Betty," will also deliver the convocation address Saturday to graduates of Syracuse's College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Williams attended Syracuse's drama department as a musical theater major from 1981-1983. She earned the remaining credits for her degree through industry experience and performances on stage and screen.

In 1983, Williams became the first black Miss America. She surrendered the title in July 1984 after Penthouse magazine published nude, sexually explicit photographs of her taken several years earlier.

Pete Doherty Is Released From London Slammer

Pete Doherty was released from a London jail Tuesday after serving a partial sentence for breaking his probation.

The Babyshambles frontman had served 29 days of a 14-week sentence. It wasn't immediately clear why he was released early.

Doherty's drug use has frequently landed him in court. Last year, he pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and cannabis, as well as a variety of driving offenses.

His recent jail sentence came after the 28-year-old singer was reportedly late for several probation appointments.

Doherty is best known as the on-off boyfriend of model Kate Moss.

King-Mellencamp Musical Postponed In Atlanta

A musical by John Mellencamp and Stephen King, scheduled to be produced next season in Atlanta, has been postponed, the Alliance Theatre announced Monday.

The Alliance announced in February that "Ghost Brothers of Darkland County," with music by Mellencamp and a book by horror master King, would open in April 2009, with the object of preparing it for a Broadway run.

The Alliance notified subscribers on Monday that the project has been delayed because of "unanticipated scheduling problems which could not be resolved in time for the production."

Members of the creative team "realized the script would not be ready by spring 2009," the statement said.

In the February announcement, the Alliance described the play as "a sultry Southern gothic mystery with a blues-tinged, guitar-driven score." Peter Askin was announced as the director.

The story is set in the fictional town of Lake Belle Reve, Miss., and centers on the deaths in 1957 of two brothers and a young girl and the legend that grows out of the tragedy.

The Alliance said it now hopes to produce the show during its 2009-2010 season.

Ex-Motown Star's Home Robbed

Detroit City Council member and ex-Motown star Martha Reeves says thieves broke into her childhood home and stole about $1 million worth of uninsured recording equipment.

Reeves says speakers, microphones and karaoke machines were among the items taken Sunday night. She says the backdoor of the house on Detroit's east side was kicked in.

Reeves says "somebody should have called the police while this was happening."

The 66-year-old singer was part of the Motown group Martha Reeves and the Vandellas and had hits in the 1960s with "Heat Wave," "Dancing in the Street," "Nowhere to Run," "I'm Ready for Love," "Jimmy Mack" and "Honey Chile."

She says the house where she grew up is now owned by her father.
