Buzz Briefs: Janice Dickinson, Miley Cyrus

Janice Dickinson Calls Tyra Banks Fat

The self proclaimed "world's first supermodel" Janice Dickinson gave new legs to the Jennifer Love Hewitt bikini controversy by invoking the name of Tyra Banks.

Last week, an unflattering photo of Hewitt in a bikini was posted on TMZ.com and snide comments were made about the "Ghost Whisperer" star's weight. Hewitt lashed out and said "A size 2 is not fat!"

Dickinson defended Hewitt, but returned to a similar controversy that happened earlier this year after unflattering photos were taken of Banks in a bathing suit and bloggers began calling the former Victoria's Secret model fat.

"You want to see someone who's fat, I'm sorry, Tyra, Tyra Banks is fat," Dickinson told Today Show co-anchor Al Roker.

Roker confronted Dickinson, saying there was no way anyone could call Banks fat. Dickinson backpedaled and said she was just kidding and that she loves Banks, with whom she used to star on "America's Next Top Model."

3A manager of a Chevron gas station in Sherman Oaks, Calif. wants Britney Spears to pay him back for the lighter she allegedly stole, according to Usmagazine.com.

Spears, 26, was filmed walking out of the station with the lighter.

"I stole something," she told photographers. "Oh, I'm bad."

"If I see her, I'm going to ask her for the money!" Manager Sham Bahia told Usmagazine.com. "She's a thief. I don't know if she wanted the lighter or just wanted to make a story."

But Spears was bailed out by photographer Shane Partridge.
"I just felt like I should, you know?" he told Us.

John Cusack Speaks Out On Iraq

4In "Grace is Gone," John Cusack plays a young father struggling to tell his daughters their mother has been killed in Iraq. He says he wanted to get inside one family's grief and the Iraq war's personal toll.

"I just wanted to do something that just told the human side of it and would allow people of any ideological perspective to kind of come together and find common ground," Cusack told ABC's "This Week" in an interview that aired Sunday.

In the Weinstein Co. drama, Cusack's character delays telling his two daughters about their mother's death, instead taking them on a road trip while the former military man sorts out his complicated feelings about the war.

"I wanted to explore the reality of grief and loss, so that the war didn't become another abstraction that's on the television, and the pundits of both sides of left versus right, you know, they attack each other and use it as a political football," Cusack said. "I really felt very strongly that I wanted to tell a story about one of those coffins coming home and tell a story for those families."

Ellen Trying To Make Good With Furry Friends

5According to Page Six, in the wake of "Iggy-gate" Ellen DeGeneres is joining forces with former Meow Mix owner Richard Thompson to spruce up animal shelters across the country. Thompson told Page Six that they are halfway done with their first project: rebuilding a shelter in Monkey Run, Ark.

"These pets are bringing the community together. Ellen's one of the best rescue people I've ever met, she got a bad rap over Iggy," he said.

DeGeneres adopted Iggy from the Pasadena, Calif. Mutts & Moms agency but broke the rules when she gave the dog to her hairdresser after two weeks because he didn't cohabitate well with her cats. DeGeneres signed a contract with Mutts & Moms agreeing that she would give Iggy back to the agency if things didn't work out. After some unflattering news coverage, DeGeneres appeared on her show in tears, begging for the agency to return the dogs.

Page Six says that Thompson will officially announce the initiative Tuesday and will appear on a future episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

Winehouse's Mom Pens Open Letter

Janis Winehouse, the mother of Grammy nominated British songstress Amy Winehouse, wrote her troubled daughter an open letter in the UK's News of the World. She pleaded with the "Rehab" singer to get her life together.

"We were terrified after we saw those pictures of you earlier this week, wandering the freezing streets of London at dawn in your underwear," she wrote. "All I wanted to do was rush into those pictures and wrap you up in a big, warm blanket."

Janis Winehouse told her Amy, 24, that attaining such great fame at such a young age has "muddled your mind," and urged her to forget that she's a superstar.

"You're also young and vulnerable. Remember you're just an ordinary human being, no stronger than any of the rest of us. You think you're strong enough to get through this on your own, darling, but you're not," the elder Winehouse wrote.

She also admitted that Amy's jailed husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is not her favorite person, but assured her daughter that she would never say anything about him that would hurt her. Fielder-Civil, 25, is accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm on a pub landlord in June, 2006.

Ex-"Idol" Finalist Booted From Patriotic Concert

The organizer of a concert billed as a holiday tribute to U.S. troops said Sunday that former "American Idol" finalist Jessica Sierra was disinvited from performing after her recent arrest.

But even if Sierra wanted to sing at the event Friday in Washington, she couldn't.

The 22-year-old is being held without bail at the Hillsborough County jail in Tampa on charges of disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest. She is to remain there at least until her next hearing, scheduled Dec. 20.

"While we appreciate Ms. Sierra's past efforts to support U.S. troops, including performing for them in Iraq on Independence Day, it is quite obvious that Ms. Sierra needs to devote a great deal of time to putting her life back together," Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Buzz Patterson said in a statement released Friday.

In a brief phone interview Sunday, Patterson said patrons of MoveAmericaForward.org, which is coordinating the concert, were concerned about Sierra's participation in the event.
