Buzz Briefs: Hannah Montana, Sharon Stone

All OK After "Hannah Montana" Set Accident

No one was seriously injured when the wind blew a projection screen against a Ferris wheel on the set of "Hannah Montana: The Movie," witnesses said.

No local law enforcement agencies or emergency medical services reported being called to the set Tuesday in Robertson County, some 15 miles north of Nashville.

Witnesses told WKRN-TV in Nashville that some children were on the ride at the time.

Jim Humphrey, the business manager for Miley Cyrus, the 15-year-old star of "Hannah Montana," said he wasn't aware of the accident.

Humphrey didn't return later phone calls for information.

Sharon Stone Not Welcome At Shanghai Film Fest

2The backlash in China against Sharon Stone continued Wednesday as the Shanghai International Film Festival said the American actress was not welcome at this year's event.

The 50-year-old "Basic Instinct" star provoked outrage in China after suggesting the recent earthquake in central Sichuan province may have been the result of bad "karma" because of Beijing's rule in Tibet.

French fashion house Christian Dior dropped Stone from its Chinese ads after she made the comments in May during a Cannes Film Festival red-carpet interview.

Stone, who walked the red carpet in Shanghai last year, will not be invited back soon, Shanghai International Film Festival spokeswoman Tang Bing said Wednesday.

Tang said film festival organizers sent Stone a letter protesting her remarks and demanding an apology.

Stone has said she was "deeply sorry" for causing anguish and anger among Chinese people, and offered to take part in quake relief efforts.

Stone's Hollywood publicist didn't immediately return an after-hours call Wednesday seeking further comment.

Jack Valenti Is Honored By University Of Houston

The University of Houston is naming its school of communication in honor of LBJ adviser and film industry lobbyist Jack Valenti, who instituted the modern movie ratings system.

Valenti, a World War II aviator and 1946 UH graduate, died last year. He was 85.

He was an aide to President Lyndon B. Johnson before going on to lead the Motion Picture Association of America.

The UH commemoration of Valenti, who was from Houston, was announced Tuesday.

The Jack J. Valenti School of Communication salutes the man whose 2007 memoir is titled: "This Time, This Place: My Life in War, the White House, and Hollywood."

Ed McMahon Fighting Foreclosure On His Beverly Hills Home

3Ed McMahon, who for decades appeared as Johnny Carson's sidekick on "The Tonight Show," is fighting to avoid foreclosure on his multimillion-dollar Beverly Hills home, according to published reports.

The former "Star Search" host was $644,000 behind on payments on $4.8 million in mortgage loans when a unit of Countrywide Financial Corp. filed a default notice Feb. 28 with the Los Angeles County Recorder's Office, The Wall Street Journal first reported late Tuesday.

McMahon, 85, has been unable to work as a pitchman for various products since he broke his neck 18 months ago, said his spokesman, Howard Bragman.

McMahon has been in "very fruitful discussions" with the lender to resolve the situation, Bragman said. But it's unclear whether McMahon and his wife, Pamela, will remain in the home.

A spokesman for Countrywide declined comment to the Los Angeles Times.

McMahon's house is near that of pop star Britney Spears, which doesn't always work in its favor.

"When we were trying to sell the house one time, there were about 100 paparazzi there," Davis said.

Man Who Robbed "Lost" Star Sentenced To Prison

A man who robbed "Lost" star Josh Holloway and his wife at gunpoint in their Hawaii home has been sentenced to 13 to 30 years in prison for his three-week crime spree.

The sentence was imposed Tuesday against 23-year-old Ruben Royce after he pleaded guilty to multiple charges in February.

Judge Karl Sakamoto said Royce was responsible for "a tidal wave of crime" that terrorized victims in their own homes. The four robberies occurred in the fall of 2005.

Prosecutors say Royce broke into the Holloways' home, threatened the couple at gunpoint, took their wallets and drove off in their Mercedes-Benz.

Holloway plays "Sawyer" on the ABC castaway drama filmed on Oahu.

Ashley Judd Speaks At UN Against Human Trafficking

4Ashley Judd says she decided to lend her voice to the fight against human trafficking after she "stumbled upon" the issue while visiting brothels, slums, hospices and other clinics in 12 nations to promote public health.

"I know that the unheard are helped when they are heard. I know that compassionate listening helps me, and my goal was to help the U.N. help them," the actress said at a news conference Tuesday at U.N. headquarters in New York.

Judd, a two-time Golden Globe nominee whose screen credits include "De-Lovely" and "Kiss the Girls," also has used her celebrity to focus attention on HIV/AIDS prevention to young adults around the world. She has been serving as a global ambassador for YouthAIDS, an education and prevention program of the group Population Services International.

"I do think that all of the issues are fundamentally connected. They all spring out of gender inequality," she told reporters.

About 2.5 million people worldwide, most of them women and children, are thought to be victims of the $32 billion annual industry of human trafficking, according to U.N. figures. The General Assembly met Tuesday for a "thematic debate" on the subject.

Stuntman Steve-O Pleads Guilty To Possessing Cocaine

5Daredevil prankster Steve-O has pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine.

As part of Tuesday's plea deal, the case against Steve-O, whose real name is Stephen Glover, will be dismissed after he completes a drug rehabilitation program, his attorney Barry Gerald Sands said.

"He is already in a program as we speak," Sands said.

The co-star of MTV's "Jackass" was arrested for investigation of vandalism and drug possession at his Hollywood home March 3 following a dispute with a neighbor over a fence.

He was later hospitalized for psychiatric treatment and has documented his recovery on his Web site.
